Get Your Business Online Using Digital Marketing and SEO an Easy Guide

We all want two main things from our website.

1. That it can be found when someone types in our keywords.

2. That it will make money.

Some people try to overcomplicate all of this with technical jargon like SEO, PPC and all those other words but really, getting found and making money are what all the business owners we deal with are interested in.

So how do you do these things?

Lets tackle number 1. Getting found.

  •  Choose your keywords. 

What are Keywords?

Keywords are the words you want your website to be found for. It’s as simple as that. So figure out what words people will use to search for your business. Using the Keyword Planner tool or the Google trends tool is a good way to help you research.

Once you determine what your keywords are you need to put them on your website. How does Google know what your website is about? It scans it for words.

  •  If you want your website to show up for the words that relate to your business those words must be on your website.

For example, If you are a physical therapist specialising in knee pain and someone types ‘knee pain’ into Google and you don’t have the words ‘knee pain’ on your website then Google won’t show it. It seems obvious but many, many people over-look this simple fact.

Therefore, if you want your website to show up for ‘knee pain’ you need to add the words knee pain to your website in places like the headings on your website, in the text on your website and in the names of the images on your website. This is called on-site optimisation and it’s the first step in getting your business online. It’s important that you don’t go crazy with this adding your Keywords into every line. Just keep it natural.

Not all website designers know this. Make sure you choose one who is up-to-date on this stuff because it’s the key to achieving step one. Of course we recommend our own website design team because well, we know what we are doing.

So now you know that you need a website that is designed to show for the words you want it to show for (keywords).

  •  Your next thing to get your head around is that Google want to show the best content in their search results.

Of course they do, their whole empire is determined by serving up good quality content. They have a couple of ways of doing this. Nope, they don’t have some guy stuck in a room reading all the articles online and deciding whether or not they are high quality. Instead they determine who’s website to show by how popular the website is. They figure this out by checking to see how many websites around the net have links to yours.

The internet is basically a big popularity contest. The more other people say they like you, the more Google will show you. The more popular the website that says they like you, the more Google will show you.

So you need to start hanging out with the websites people visit every day and get them bigging up your site and creating links to it. But how do you get the really popular websites to show links to your website?

It’s actually quite simple. What websites do people visit everyday? Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter.  All these sites let you set up an account really easily and at no cost.

What you need to do is set up accounts on these sites and posts links from your website to them. This will get you traffic AND create backlinks. This is a really important part of your digital marketing strategy.

Another way to get links to your website is to go on forums that are talking about your particular service or product and comment leaving your website address.

Again like with the keywords, don’t go crazy with links. You want to aim for quality not quantity.

  •  The final strategy to achieve our goal of getting you found online is updating your website regularly with new stuff.

This can be articles or videos (video will give you a huge boost in your ranking). Make sure that the content your putting up there includes your keywords.
